Wendell is a beautiful, small, historic town nestled just 14 miles east of Raleigh, North Carolina in Wake County. Small Town Charm - Capital City Connection. The Town was incorporated in 1903.  Due to a fire in the early 1900's, some of the Town's records were destroyed. It is not known when the police department was established.  The first uniforms were ordered in 1917. The Town of Wendell now has six boards/committees that are comprised of citizens who work with Town Staff to provide input to the Wendell Board of Commissioners on issues that are important to our growing Town.  The members of the committees are appointed by the Board of Commissioners on an annual basis. The present Mayor of the Town of Wendell is Timothy A. Hinnant.  Mayor Hinnant has served as Mayor since 2003.
